2008 Harvest Moon Festival Booth & Mosaic Workshop

The 2008 Harvest Moon Festival took place on a beautiful fall day this year. The event kicked off with a parade that blanketed Downtown in floats, politicians and candy. Sparky the Fire Dog along with his firemen friends and their big, red truck showed up. The smell of chicken wings and pulled pork, brauts, hot cider and caramel apples filled the air. The young and the young at heart dressed in their Halloween finest making Center and First Streets look like MGM's lunch room. Moonwalks, petting zoo and trick or treating with area merchants were surrounded by the colors and textures of fall.

This is the second year DPACD has embraced the opportunity to be a part of this community festival. It fits so perfectly with our multi generational approach. We had two activities to bring out the inner artist this time around. Potter Natalie Thomas created Halloween themed fired clay necklaces that the kids could "art up" and take home. It was a favorite last year and festival goers were thrilled to see it again this year. Over in our sign plaza, we put on an all day mosaic workshop to create a lasting piece of public art. Both the young ones and the not so young ones had fun and learned about this art form. The finished product can be viewed at the north end of the sign plaza on Main Street. What a wonderful way to be a part of the history of Downtown!

We look forward to next year's event and hope the event continues to grow as Downtown does.
